THREE POEMS from KEMPTON B VAN HOFF
BREATHING EARTH'S INTEGRITY

Verbotten
so we meet
retreating woods
east of fattening
metropolis off of
beaten paths light
seeks our eyes
twixt leaves sounds
of you and we
breathe shadows
lighthouse and tree
grew in and couldn't stand
without someday they
will hold each other tonight
in Oaxaca tribal son and daughter
mix with their distance
from the group
commingle without thought
of octogenarian threat
always we will
return in dream
to a shrunken forest
the parts that didn't need
fixed huge Love with light
touch we the only two
only universal inseparable
irascible incomprehensible
idea that the only heart you've won
should be the one you'll
never break.
