Meg Smith
THE LONELY BUTTERFLIES

Nothing rises
from the fire pit.
Nothing takes wing
to ash.
Summer folds in
its velvet-black arms,
its closeness of flowers.
The gold fire
came to him, and stayed.
The voices around me
vanished in
that sparkling dust.
