Nothing rises
from the fire pit.
Nothing takes wing
to ash.
Summer folds in
its velvet-black arms,
its closeness of flowers.
The gold fire
came to him, and stayed.
The voices around me
vanished in
that sparkling dust.



MEG SMITH is a writer, dancer, journalist and events producer living in Lowell, Mass. Her poems have appeared in The Cafe Review, Poetry Bay, Bewildering Stories, the Dwarf Stars Anthology of the Science Fiction Fantasy And Poetry Association, Pudding, and more.  She served on the board of Lowell Celebrates Kerouac!, a festival dedicated to Lowell native Jack Kerouac, from 1994 to 2009, AND produces the Edgar Allan Poe show, celebrating Poe's presence in Lowell.
