Summer 2004

Steve Dalachinsky
LIBRARY

for d.p.

we met in a meadow of books
parted like the pages of sunset
i said "cafe society " is a manner
i'll never get
you said
"for 5 bucks i'll show it to you"

you breathed the letters into my skull
as the scene changed hourly
showed me how the long line
fit into the narrowest of pages

for an instant
the line
seems end
less

for an eternity
it is all too
brief
