Bill Kulik Costley

MY POLISH-SPEAKING UNCLE

My Polish-speaking uncle
Stanislaw, a star athlete at
Salem MA h.s., was recruited
by the O.S.S. to ‘work with’
the Polish government in exile
in London, dropped by glider
into Nazi-occupied Poland,
to assasinate people he was
sworn never to name, but did
show my father what he did.
After the war, he woke up
in his bedroom in his parents'
home, tearing it up. Days,
he split hides in a tannery
with his father, Jan Kulik.

Bill [Kulik] Costley's wife Carolin Combs died 26 JAN 07. He now lives in a retirement community in Santa Clara CA & co-founded The 'other' St. Mark's Poetry Project at St. Mark's Episcopal church.  His current political poetry appears on The New Verse News ed. by James Penha a NYC ex-pat in Jakarta, Java, Indonesia.
