FALL/WINTER 2012

Allen C Fischer

SLEEP SURFING

Sometimes I dream the world scrolls
into a great wave and,
like a surfer, I enter its tunnel,
a mere speck in the grasp of waterfall.

I ride the hurl of the wave,
skimming within a turn of fate --
only seconds to make my escape before
the wave breaks and I am thrown ashore,
head spinning, face down on a cotton beach.
