FALL/WINTER 2012

Barbra Nightingale

TAKE THIS WOMAN

Take this woman and place her
in a house of sticks.
Comes a big wind
no more house
and the sticks
have scattered everywhere.

Take this man and give him
what he wants;
he’ll only want more
and no one
will ever fill him up.

Take this day and bend it
backward and forward
like a paper fan.
See how it mimics
the wind, erasing
the footprints
left by them both?
