FALL/WINTER 2012

Grace Cavalieri

GUARDIAN OF TIME

I don’t know how I knew this -- this
deepening love -- subjectivity of experience --
the desolation of the prairie rabbit -- how
the horizon and the ocean became one
and then see the sky and the ocean
turning pink.
And speaking of anger
if the ocean were not calm
after that
we would not
have seen the pink. I realize
I am a slow moving boat
of wishes closing in, guarding
these unfortunate treasures, yet they are
reasoned and true. We are images in God’s dream. Did
you think there was an easier access to happiness?
