Fall/Winter 2014

Allan Peterson

A MESSAGE

There will be a silent clear sky

and one crust of bread

and gulls will unmelt from humidity

and sunlight frozen as the moon

will materialize a ghost

from the same substance

A wind will flutter the curtains

like a semaphore   a message

as long as low pressure

a fox staying ahead of its tail

will affirm a directional universe

that stars are its flaming ruins

Allan Peterson is the author of four books including, Fragile Acts, and a finalist for both the 2013 National Book Critics Circle and Oregon Book Awards. His next book, Precarious, is forthcoming from 42 Miles Press in 2014.
