M.R. Pelletier

LEGERDEMAIN

Not merely there, alone
the mind, in its head

as in the thumb working
the pitted surface of an orange pored like skin—

more there, in the cupped palm’s
waxen grip, there with the rounded

heft of it, and in the wrist
bearing the weight of it—right there,

with the thing it attends, there
listening to the hand.

M. R. Pelletier’s poetry has appeared in Tittynope and his reviews have appeared in Flint Hills Review. He is an MA candidate in English at Emporia State University where he is both a Writing Center tutorand the assistant to the Poet Laureate of Kansas, Kevin Rabas.
