Dd. Spungin

INNOCENCE DOESN’T GROW BACK

Those first lilies of the valley
The blackberries we picked
The fig tree in Georgia

The first kiss that woke an innocent heart
The bully who enjoyed doing harm
The first harsh word with no love to soften it

Bruises that came from anger
Bruises no one can heal
The rose blackened by dying

There is life after pain
Gardens grow again
But innocence cut, bleeds out.
