DANCING TO SILENCE |
I dial the long ago,
ask for my young self
She gets on the phone
I can picture her innocent mouth,
no smoke trails, only secrets
We talk of the heresy,
secular but indelible
She hums my past,
songs that are sirens
warning me—beware
the absence of truth
the betrayal of love
I accuse her as tears
fall—why have you deserted me?
Her silence, the music of loss
I dance.
