Doe-Ann Powell |
PACIFIC BLUE |
These are not eyes
They are oceans
Deep - tumultuous.
I look at them
Like a survivor
Of a capsized
Vessel –
And plunge
Ever so deeply
Into these
Undulating waters
Peering up I see sunlight
Desperately I struggle
To the surface
To find myself ... Yet
once more … I look
You stare
I sink
Again ...
And
Again ...
And
Again
A native of eastern Long Island, New York for over 60 years, Doe-Ann Powell’s poems have appeared in: Portfolio aka The Greenport Folio, The East Hampton Star, Long Island Quarterly 25th Silver Anniversary Anthology, Long Island Quarterly (LIQ) December 2017 Online Fall/Winter edition, as well as other venues. “Though I’m not a prolific writer,” she says, “I like to think that my poetry reflects an earlier time living on the east end of Long Island.”
