ARTICULATING LOSS

Inevitably the news arrives
Unwelcome
the body no longer young
desiring or desirable
once a young girl
running laughing jumping hoops
through a world wholly owned
the boyish body
slim hipped
small breasted anguish
loving the freedom from flesh
breathing in the
scent of fresh cut grass
the blinding sunlight its own scent
curl of ocean
the salt and future
good enough to eat
alone
this fading memory of wanting it all
so much
and being allowed it
because after all
this was once a girl
alive in the world of boys
now
in the middle of cross hairs
yearning for the intoxication
of longing
for forbidden fruit
slipping by all the days
so lavishly
& foolishly devoured
now among the flowers
~ so many flowers...
