Jumped over the cow
stepped on a crack
got a scholarship
travelled widely
became well read
decent, friendly, open
honest.

Stayed buried under the sugar
in the bowl
for all those years.

But it was the constant
dripping water
from the sink
that over time
wore him away
in the middle.
