BALLAD OF RED TAIL HAWK |
I spread
My broad wings and tail
Glide over Tanger Mall
In Riverhead
At least I get lift
From warm air rising
Above black tar pavement
Nothing there to eat
I’ve been looking
Nothing but cars and buildings
Just a squirrel
That’s all I ask
Down there – no privacy
If I folded wings and bunched tail
Dove to make a strike
I could be killed
There was a time
I had plenty of space to hunt
Forests and open meadows galore
I soared, dove, and feasted
It’s getting tough these days
Got to keep moving west
It’s time to check out the
Edge of the expressway
Hang out on a light pole
Watch passing cars
