FALL/ WINTER 2012

REILIENCE

In the terrible streets icy wind and rain
wreak havoc, tear umbrellas, bufft us
into streaming gutters. Brave crowds go
to and fro, dressed in the best winter wear,
hatted, wrapped with flair in scarves,
faces fearless. All these New Yorkers
come from far, now dive underground
 where musicians in cavernous dark
play pipes of Pan, small drums,
tiny guitars, as if this were
      the Amazon. I, overcome,
          embrace the sound
                   and sing.
