THE UNATTAINABLE NOW

I sat in a bar
filled with people
their faces aglow

from the screens of their cell phones
the excitement of being young
and in the city

there’s something so alluring…

something so
here now
gone now

Have we missed it
that joyful, breathtaking anticipation?

It’s sound bite relationships at your fingertips
while at the other side of a pint glass
a flirtatious face

You want it now
but there’s not even enough clarity
there’s not even enough mindfulness
to be fully present
to enjoy a now
even if there was one.

Taking a picture
held up through a screen
I really can’t capture a moment at all

Sure, I’m getting you in the frame
but there’s no way for me to focus.
