Lisa Cowley

I sat in a bar
filled with people
their faces aglow

from the screens of their cell phones
the excitement of being young
and in the city

thereís something so alluringÖ

something so
here now
gone now

Have we missed it
that joyful, breathtaking anticipation?

Itís sound bite relationships at your fingertips
while at the other side of a pint glass
a flirtatious face

You want it now
but thereís not even enough clarity
thereís not even enough mindfulness
to be fully present
to enjoy a now
even if there was one.

Taking a picture
held up through a screen
I really canít capture a moment at all

Sure, Iím getting you in the frame
but thereís no way for me to focus.
