Tom Stock
A SCARLET RAINDROP

I searched an old bog
For over an hour
Before finding a
Ruby raindrop-shaped fruit.
It's a fresh, clean cranberry,
Hung on a short stalk
With tiny, green leaves.
I bent low with forked fingers
To scoop this fruit
Like one of those wooden ones
You'd find in a historical museum.
In my mouth, a sharp, tart taste...
Shock.
