SEASON OF CHANGES |
Oh you, temperamental you,
one day hot next day cold,
sometimes mellow sometimes robust
scene of Goodbyes, stage of Hellos.
Ready to exchange
peaches and cherries for apples,
berries for pumpkins.
You, the host of ghosts and goblins,
Entertainer of Goddess of harvests,
Showcase for feasts of plenty and thanks,
site of holy events at prelude of another coming.
You, Glorious Queen of seasons
I admire mystifying colors of your wardrobes
adore shades of lime-green, lemon- yellow,
sunset-orange, ruby-red and earthy brown ornaments
that you offer to Mother Earth.
You follow another generous warm season of abundance,
leave when nature’s dormant seasonarrives.
I bow my head and follow you on your journey
till you alter texture of the grass, fibers of the weeds,
and color of the leaves.
After you put them to sleep in care of Nature,
I say, “Adieu” to you and “Hello” to winter.
