Aimee Herman

I FELL SPEAKING TO SPIRITS WATCHING MY BREATH

Women asked about the men
but I was
I took     I was
took more.

They gained to speak
realized too much
inside every man is a kilo of
burn.

Women from the river
are endless.
Sometimes,
I stopped men—

But not before presidents
were stuffed into ripped pockets.
Mostly, foam bleeds from corners
of trees being climbed from

those in need of escape.

AIMEE HERMAN is a queer writer and teacher with two full length books of poems. In 2019, Aimee's first novel, "Everything Grows" will be published by Three Rooms Press.
