FALL/ WINTER 2008

Charles Potts

NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN DRONE

Sea breeze blowing sand in my face
At forty knots an hour.
Is the ocean roaring?
What is the right word to describe the sound,
The word for what the ocean says?

Ed Cameron who reminded me of our meeting
Thirty-six years before and counting
Claims to never pay attention to it, said
“The ocean is white noise.”
The waves are all on the same frequency
Creating
A solid string of sound.
