FALL/WINTER 2012

Ian Griffiths

THE PAUCITY OF POETS

I gave my photo of Dylan Thomas
To a girl from Philadelphia
In the hope that it might lead to
Sex
She a follower of Yates
I disciple of John Donne
Her bikini I recall
Was mostly
String

Sex
Was not forthcoming
And now my photo of Dylan lies
Abandoned in some Philly draw of smalls
A testament to unrequited teenage lust
And the paucity of poets pates
When used as international
Exchange

IAN GRIFFITHS WAS BORN AND BROUGHT UP IN Swansea South Wales inhabiting the same landscape as made famous by Dylan Thomas, whose work he greatly admires. Though he now lives in Eastern England he continues in his writing to draw on much of his experience and youth growing up in Wales. His first collection of poems is Conversations with Birds.
