FALL/WINTER 2012

Olga Abella

THE P-MATE

In the cartoon ad the woman unzips her pants,
spreads her legs and cups a paper spout beneath her crotch.

Pee arches in a steady stream into the toilet
or writes a message in the snow.

Like a man, the ad croons, you can stand
and play with your pee for $10.

For 10 bucks you can buy a package
of 5 cardboard penises,

let convenience fill you with power
as that thing in your hand grows

hot with the force of your feet planted
firmly on the ground.

Free from squatting, dribbling, trouser-dropping
women can push panties to the side and stand

unexposed with dignity.
