IN THE MOON OF THE BLUE OWL

Rabbit has crossed from Spruce to Stump to Woods.
Tonight this is the story the snow tells
in voice so hushed, its words travel in pairs –
side   byside        sidebyside
till on the far side of morning they huddle in shadow
the moon falls upon the tracks of its telling
and off in the distance
a train passes
dogs bark
someone stirs beneath the whisper
of the blue wings of sleep.
