across the 57th floor she sails
above the heads of customers
on the sprite wings of each pencil order
buoyant window clouds watch over her
from floor to ceiling
she just smiles
a waitress and L’Oreal smile
a hot coffee and eggs au gratin smile
as if there's no place she'd rather  
as if she has always wanted to be
here since she was a child
