CHERISH CENTRAL HUNT BUBBLE BREAD |
My warm breath papers suggest Vikings,
the nephew of a corrupt and feckless archbishop,
heir to stolen property,
and a dispossessed poltroon fled east.
Latent in the skid marks of the cell cycle,
animal ... plant ... fungi variations,
a few ways the present rewrites the past,
itself a rewriting. These ways shift
in parallel forms, but at many speeds,
though chromatin supercoils every time.
Protein waves harmonize
until they glut and ebb.
Just so, I spilled beer on a piano,
videoed the spreading, dancing foam
while my accomplice played nonstop.
I challenged viewers to tell me when
Protestant hymns based on psalms gave way
to Chopin études -- "Chromatic", "Butterfly",
allowed them extra clues:
stopped watches swam in choppy brew,
restarted at different times.
Yeast resonates growth,
squeaky buds and air.
Each octave ripples its own vector,
of bread and wine ... and rot.
